This mother of pearl butterfly brooch arranges a cluster of butterflies at different scales, the largest wing hand-set with natural mother of pearl, its iridescence shifting from white to soft pink to something briefly green as the light moves. Alongside it, antique gold-tone brass butterflies in smaller sizes, each one centred with a deep blue lapis lazuli stone that holds its colour like a fixed point in all that movement.
The result is a brooch that feels caught rather than composed, the way a real moment in a garden does. Drawn from Art Nouveau's obsession with natural life rendered in precious detail.
At 15g it wears lightly. Designed in our London studio.
