The crescent moon is one of the oldest symbols in decorative art. This earring wears it simply, a clean arc of 18ct gold plated sterling silver, a single natural lapis lazuli stone set at its centre.
Lapis lazuli is a deep, royal blue, not the bright blue of sky, but something older and quieter. Ground into pigment it became ultramarine, the colour reserved for the most precious subjects in Renaissance painting. As a stone, it holds that same depth: rich, consistent, impossible to replicate in glass or enamel. Against the warm gold of the setting, the contrast is immediate and considered.
At 7g the pair sits lightly. The kind of earring that works as well with a white shirt on a Tuesday as with anything more deliberate.
